Why do I need a prescription?
Updated
A prescription is required because some pet medicines are legally classified as Prescription Only Medicines - Veterinary (POM‑V). These medicines can only be prescribed by a qualified veterinary surgeon after they’ve assessed your pet’s health and decided the treatment is appropriate. To dispense and dispatch any POM‑V product, we must have a legally valid veterinary prescription that matches exactly what your vet has prescribed.
Why this matters
POM‑V medicines can only be supplied with your vet’s written authorisation.
The prescription ensures your pet is receiving the correct medicine, strength, and quantity.
It also confirms that a vet has recently reviewed your pet’s condition and that the treatment is safe and appropriate.
This legal framework is in place to protect pets and ensure they receive the right care under professional veterinary supervision.
