Getting a medical exemption certificate (MedEx)
Updated
You can apply for a medical exemption certificate if you have one of the qualifying medical conditions listed by the NHS. Your GP can provide the application form, and if you’re unsure whether your condition is eligible, they can help confirm this.
Once issued, a MedEx allows you to receive NHS prescriptions free of charge, but it’s important that your exemption details remain accurate and up to date. The NHS carries out routine checks to prevent fraud or error, and claiming free prescriptions without a valid exemption may lead to a penalty charge.
